The Withering Colonial Thought.

Friends and family, I am super excited to invite you to take part of a poetry community project coming this fall!

Thanking Jolene Andrew for her invitation to the Positive Deviance Art Project:

"Positive deviance is a strength-based approach which is applied to problems requiring behavior and social change. With our collective intelligence we will visit our memories that define our stories as shaped by the land."

COMMUNITY ANTHOLOGY PROPOSAL - A PUBLICATION OPPORTUNITY - NO EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

The Withering Colonial Thought: Land and Bodies Revival.

Three workshops will take place on Unceded Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) and səl̓ilwətaɁɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) territories to develop community-based poetry and source inspiration with land connecting practices. Inspired by the land and its' seasons, the fall invites us to let wither what needs to rest. We may visit parks to source our inspiration, re-imagine our urban futures and invite the geographical stories that modern modifications have brought to surface through our collective remembrance.

Open to visual arts proposals + Honorarium to contributors available.

Can we transform the conventionally pejoratively perceived deviant behaviours into skills in front of oppressive structures and systems?

Can we change our perception of something we look at negatively, in our selves or in our surroundings into something beneficial for our communities?

Can we defy internalized colonial thought and allow it to wither, so that its' pieces feed our future ancestors?

May we share the stories of the land, reclaim the power of words, and develop vocabularies of resistance.
